About SPPROHRW

Launched on November 15, 2024, the SPPROHRW project is a three-year initiative led by the Government of Rwanda, supported by the Pandemic Fund grant. The project aims to strengthen Rwanda’s healthcare system against disease outbreaks by enhancing preparedness, response mechanisms, and resilience.

The project focuses on improving surveillance and early warning systems, advancing laboratory capacity, and developing the health workforce. Key activities include integrating digital solutions for real-time disease monitoring, upgrading healthcare facility laboratories, and training outbreak response teams—with the goal of bolstering Rwanda’s ability to detect and contain health threats swiftly.

The project aligns with the International Health Regulations (IHR) 2005 and considers climate impact, gender equity, and vulnerable communities. By addressing critical gaps identified in Rwanda’s Joint External Evaluation (JEE) 2018 and Performance of Veterinary Services (PVS) 2019, SPPROHRW aims to enhance the country’s ability to detect, respond to, and mitigate health emergencies effectively. It integrates human, animal, and environmental health approaches to create a robust and coordinated pandemic response.
