Study aim of the objectives

The study aims to investigate the lived experience of Health Care Workers during the Coronavirus pandemic, in Rwanda, with a view to supporting them in their role. Specific objectives consist to investigate healthcare workers’ perceived professional success in the Rwandan COVID-19 response; to investigate healthcare workers’ perceived professional challenges in the Rwandan COVID-19 response; to investigate the impact of the recent pandemic on their physical and mental well being.

The current study will provide new information to understand how HCWs were able to respond, and what impact it had on them directly, with respect to the recent pandemic. This information will be used to make recommendations for policy and professional training, and to highlight opportunities that were taken and what barriers were and were not overcome. Information on the personal wellbeing of staff will inform future strategies and provision to reduce the burden when put under challenging professional and personal conditions. This new information will be of direct benefit to enhancing the work of Rwandan government/policy and Ministry for Health. It will also be of value to other countries and professional bodies, with responsibilities for supporting this important workforce.
