Study aim of the objectives

Objective: To investigate how demographic, clinical, psychosocial and environmental factors
impact ART adherence, viral suppression, care engagement, and mortality among perinatally
and behaviorally infected ALWH in Rwanda and across IeDEA regions.
Specific Aim 1: To describe care engagement patterns (retention, gaps in care) and viral nonsuppression before and after cohort formation, and mortality and losses to care after cohort
formation.
Specific Aim 2: To identify demographic, clinical, psychosocial and environmental correlates of
retention in care and viral non-suppression over time among ALWH. Factors to be assessed
include but are not limited to: age, gender, mode of transmission, age at diagnosis, family and
social support, HIV-disclosure, transitions in care, self-reported adherence, pregnancy, stigma,
depression, anxiety, trauma, sexual risk behaviors, and substance use.

Specific Aim 3: To assess the feasibility of establishing a multiregional cohort of ALWH for indepth data collection. Feasibility measures include numbers of ALWH eligible, enrolled and
retained in the study in each IeDEA region participating in AYANI.
