In the case of domestic or other acts of violence, for your safety and security please note the following information:
Report your rape
Even if you do not want to prosecute, even if you do not want anyone to know, even if you feel bad because you know the person, you should always report your rape. Reporting is important, even if prosecution never happens, because it can serve as a red flag later if that person rapes again. Reporting will protect both yourself and others.
Get tested for pregnancy, STIs or STDs
If you have been raped, even if you choose not to report it or prosecute, you should obtain a pregnancy test, if you are female, and get tested for STIs or STDs, for females and males. Early treatment and interventions are key and doing so will protect your own health. We offer this service in every district hospital for free.
Talk to professionals who can help you
If you choose to not report or prosecute, you should always take precautions for your own health. People who have been raped are at high risk of depression, suicide, drug and alcohol abuse, and other mental health conditions, especially when they do not receive support. You may call any Community Health Worker or our TOLL FREE NUMBER 114 to find help.
