In February 2024, the Ministry of Health (MOH) submitted a funding proposal with Rwanda Social Security Board (RSSB) to support 4×4 Scholarships, leading to RSSB approving a funding of 3,728,254,000 RWF in July 2024 for the sponsorship of 916 students (606 Midwives and 310 Nurses) across six private institutions, including Gitwe University and the Catholic University of Rwanda. The King Faisal Hospital Rwanda Foundation (KFHRF), which has effectively collaborated with MOH in the 4×4 scheme over the past year, has been chosen as the implementing partner for managing and disbursing these scholarship funds.
The MoU signing event marked the official launch of this scholarship scheme and included additional support from RSSB to IRCAD Africa, providing 150M RWF for training 80 Rwandan surgeons in Minimally Invasive Surgery. Key participants in the event included officials from MOH, KFHRF, IRCAD Africa, and RSSB, along with six scholarship recipients. This substantial investment is expected to shape the next generation of healthcare leaders, enhancing service delivery, reducing patient wait times, and improving overall health outcomes, thereby reinforcing the commitment to better healthcare access and quality for all Rwandans.
