Rwanda Public Health Bulletin official launch


New Journal dubbed “Rwanda Public Health Bulletin” was launched on Tuesday by the Ministry of Health to support the ministry disseminate information related especially to public health issues.

The Minister of Health Dr Diane Gashumba said that the bulletin will help to deliver accurate information to the public and most especially to policy makers and help public and health professionals for disease prevention.

“Information sharing is key for successful implementation of public health programs. Getting accurate information to public helps in disease control and prevention, this bulletin will publish disease surveys, outbreak reports and research findings.” Dr. Gashumba said.

The launch attracted various people including Health professionals, researchers, academicians and policy makers.

She thanked contributors to the launch of this bulletin, including the center for disease control, University of Rwanda, stakeholders of the Ministry of Health, Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC), CDC Foundation Organization and the Bloomberg Initiative.

The bulletin will be operating under the editorial team of Rwanda Health Communication Centre.

She said that the bulletin does not require a big budget as most of the writers are professional healthcare providers. Its language of publication is English.

Dr. Leon Mutesa, the chief editor of this bulletin is currently a health professional and lecturer at University of Rwanda.

He said that current health news was not very scientific based to communicate international information, noting that the new launched bulletin will be written after peer review process to assess the quality of any article before publication.

Mutesa said that the similar journal operates in Zambia, Tanzania, Ghana and Bangladesh and now in Rwanda.

The bi-annual (Twice a year) journal will be spread to district and referral hospitals countrywide to inform the public.

“It will gather especially issues related to outbreak, disease survivors and it will be useful to address all those kinds of challenges hindering information sharing to the community,” Mutesa noted.

The first edition of the journal was initiated since November 2018 up to March 2019.
