The Ministry of Health through Rwanda Biomedical Centre has distributed close to 9000 Long Lasting Insecticide Nets in Gasabo, Kicukiro and Nyarugenge districts in a bid to fight malaria.
\nThe free distribution done between 2 to 6, January 2017 saw Kicukiro receive 259,300, Gasabo 416,500 and Nyarugenge 181,700 LLINs respectively.
\nOn distribution, Rwandans are taken through malaria prevention measures and how to effectively use the bed nets.
\n\u201cWe call upon Rwandans to sleep under the LLINs daily, to wash them only once in a quarter and with normal soap, not detergent,\u201d says Dr Monique Murindahabi Ruyange ,Director of Prevention Unit at RBC.
\nDr. Murindahabi warns Rwandans against misusing the LLINs.
\n\u201cNo one is allowed to sell or use the bednets for fishing or any other purposes apart from malaria prevention,\u201d She advises.
\nStarting on 9th January 2017, more LLINs will be distributed to Rugarama Health Centre.
\nMeanwhile, Rwandans are also required to ensure environmental hygiene, timely closing of houses during the evening as well as seeking immediate health interventions at the first malaria symptoms.
\nApart from LLIN distribution, Rwanda has hired different strategies against Malaria. These include; Indoor Residual Spraying for Malaria prone districts, free malaria diagnosis and treatment for Ubudehe 1 and 2 social categories, empowering Community Health Workers to treat Malaria at the Community level among others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
