The disposable coveralls provide personal protection to health care workers engaging directly with COVID-19 patients to avoid transmission.  They will be distributed to health facilities and treatment centres where patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) are being treated.<br \/>\n\u201cThis generous contribution from the Federative Republic of Brazil will complement national efforts to reduce new infections of COVID-19,\u201d said Dr. Sabin Nsanzimana, Director General of Rwanda Biomedical Centre.<br \/>\n\u201cThis contribution is part of the government of Brazil\u2019s global initiative to support a number of countries, including Rwanda, in their fight to overcome the pandemic and save lives,\u201d said H.E. Mr. Fernando Estellita Lins de Salvo Coimbra, Brazilian Ambassador to Rwanda. \u201cThis gesture demonstrates Brazil\u2019s solidarity and willingness to cooperate with Rwanda\u201d, he added.<br \/>\nThe contribution has been channelled through the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to expedite the availability of this critical Personal Protective Equipment, given the agency\u2019s strong supply chain network both in Rwanda and globally.<br \/>\n\u201cThanks to the support of Brazil, WFP is providing vital supply chain assistance to Rwanda\u2019s Ministry of Health to help front-line medical personnel in their life-saving efforts to combat the spread of this virus\u201d, said Edith Heines, WFP Rwanda Representative and Country Director.<br \/>\nAccording to data from the Rwanda Biomedical Centre, since the outbreak of COVID-19 in March, Rwanda has recorded 4738 confirmed cases, 2991 recoveries and 127 deaths due to the global pandemic. The Government of Rwanda and partners have put in place strong preventive measures that include mass testing.
