Welcome To The 3rd Annual Health Research & Policy Conference
The Health Research and Policy Conference is a dedicated platform designed to catalyze transformative advancements in healthcare. The third edition will be based on the theme: “The National Health Research Agenda: Advancing Research for a Healthy Rwanda.” This event brings together policymakers, researchers, healthcare professionals, and stakeholders to forge a united front in shaping the future of healthcare in Rwanda. It is a gathering designed to explore and establish strategies for building a connected ecosystem that is responsive to the unique health needs of Rwanda. The conference will feature the official launch of the National Health Research Agenda, the National Strategic Plan for Research, Innovation and Data Science, and additional initiatives focused on enhancing human resources capabilities in Research and Development (R&D). The National Health Research Agenda is a comprehensive blueprint designed to guide and prioritize health research activities in alignment with the nation’s health-related needs. Recognizing the transformative potential of research innovation and data science, the National Strategic Plan for Research, Innovation and Data Science aims to leverage these advancements, and outline strategic approaches to harness research, innovation and data science for improving healthcare outcomes and decision-making. The conference will host parallel sessions dedicated to in-depth discussions on various health-related topics and on enhancing human resources capabilities in R&D, focusing on skill development and fostering a culture of innovation.
The Health Research & Policy Conference plays a critical role in creating a connected ecosystem in response to Rwanda’s particular health needs. Rwanda, like many nations, faces unique health challenges that require innovative solutions adapted to the country’s context and culture. The symposium will bring together diverse stakeholders to foster collaboration around the implementation of the National Health Research Agenda and the National Strategic Plan for Research, Innovation and Data Science. By addressing infectious diseases, chronic diseases, mental health, pandemic preparedness, data science, clinical trials, and maternal and child health, the event seeks to contribute significantly to the advancement of healthcare in Rwanda.
Objectives
The Health Research and Policy Conference is an initiative launched in 2018, with the aim to contribute to the improvement of health and wellbeing of all Rwandans by bringing together key players in the healthcare sector to reflect and discuss on the translation of research evidence into policymaking and implementation. It is an annual gathering of different stakeholders in the health sector to share and discuss evidence-based policy making and practices. The second edition of Rwanda Health Research and Policy Symposium was organized in May 2022 and gathered over 500 people from various backgrounds. The overarching objectives of the third Health Research and Policy Symposium are:
- Connecting the health research community in Rwanda
- Promoting grassroots research
- Discussing the contribution and implementation of research in policy making
- Promoting and evaluating innovative approaches for quality healthcare
